The Department of Social Relations (DSR), East West University organized a Field Trip to National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM), Mohakhali, Dhaka on July 15, 2019. The students of the courses POP201: Health Challenges of Adolescents and Youths, POP202: Introduction to Public Health, POP203: Introduction to Population Studies and GEN209: Introduction to Social Psychology went to the field trip with their respective instructors Dr. Marzia Zaman Sultana, Senior Lecturer, DSR, Professor Dr. Md. Mobarak Hossain Khan, Chairperson, DSR and Ms. Rubayat Kabir, Senior Lecturer, DSR. The journey started from EWU at 10 am and after reaching at NIPSOM, the field trip team was warmly welcomed by two of NIPSOM’s faculty members Dr. Fahad Mahmood and Dr. Aysha Haque. Then they took us to the conference room and the students introduced themselves to faculty members of NIPSOM. Dr. Fahad Mahmood gave a detail presentation on NIPSOM.

NIPSOM was established almost four decades ago in 1974 and during this long remarkable journey thousands of public health experts were nurtured here to lead the nation’s preventive health sector. This apex body of public health run under the ministry of health and has academic, research, training and consultancy facilities for public health and is affiliated with renowned international organization like WHO, FAO, APACPH etc. They provide Masters of Public Health and M Phil in Preventive and Social Medicine degrees and graduates of medical, dental, nursing, biological science and social science students with one year working experience are eligible for applying to these programs. This field trip to NIPSOM has enriched the students’ current knowledge on public health sector of the country and opened a window of opportunity for their future endeavor in this field. Finally the team thanked the faculty members of NIPSOM to provide us an opportunity to visit and came back to EWU.
